General Liability Insurance – A Good Idea

October 8th, 2009 by admin in employer liability insurance

Having general liability insurance is a good idea for any business. Liability insurance can protect you against lawsuits in the event of a product defect or failure. It can also cover you against claims of non-performance, accidental damages and other small claims. Contractors who enter any other premise should carry general liability insurance as a matter of course. It is prudent to protect oneself against the litigious nature of the world today.

Whenever you do work at another person’s home or workplace there is need for liability coverage. If you decide to go it alone there is the chance that you could become involved in a lawsuit and lose assets or money. One real life example to consider is a case where a workman was sent to a home to do a repair. This workman accidentally forgot to plug the customer’s freezer back in when the work was completed. This accidental omission then caused the homeowner to lose a freezer full of food. The homeowner claimed against the workman’s company for recovery of their food losses.

There are many times when a simple error can result in monetary damages that will be pursued by customers. Without general liability insurance there is an open door for a lawsuit that could result in additional costs above the actual damages. Liability insurance can cut those expenses off at the first level.

It does not cost a lot to get a basic general liability insurance coverage package. Just ask your personal insurance agent for some information and a quote for what is normal for your type of business or work. You can also compare online at different insurance websites once you know how much coverage you should be carrying. Determine what amount of coverage is best for the type of jobs you are doing or the services and/or products you offer.

Having liability insurance is a pre-requisite for some subcontracting jobs and it can be a selling point for regular business. Do not let lack of insurance coverage stop you from getting good jobs. Be sure to plan ahead for success on all points by having adequate general liability insurance coverage for you and your company.
